Is your school ready for the challenge? The Cartoon Challenge at KAFI (Kalamazoo Animation Festival International) 2009 is open for team submissions from September 1, 2008 to January 16, 2009. Ten teams of animations students from colleges and art schools across the continent will spend four intense days and nights on the campus of Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Their mission is to create an original 30-second PSA on a topic chosen by the event's sponsor. The topic is kept a secret until the start of the contest at 8 a.m., then the ten teams are let loose in the Center for New Media at KVCC to create their film.
The challenge, from May 11-14, 2008, is the lead-up event to KAFI running May 14-17, 2009. Interested teams need to send an application form, a $35 entry fee and a demo reel to KAFI by January 16,2009. KAFI will notify the ten teams selected for the Cartoon Challenge on February 13, 2009.
