As part of a season of programs and digital content for BBC World Service and BBC World News, the BBC has launched a competition asking for budding animators, illustrators and creatives to create a vision of the future.

The competition is global, and aimed at students or other people developing their skills in animation, photography and illustration.

Koji Yamamura's vision of the future is based on a painting by Pieter Bruegel.

A number of well-known illustrators and animators, including Japanese Illustrator and filmmaker Koji Yamamura, Buenos Aires creative group Play Collective, Australia’s Glenn Hatton, British artist and author Levi Pinfold, Spanish poet photographer Chema Madoz, and Abdoulaye Konaté, the director of the Conservatoire of Arts and Media in Bamako, Mali, have been asked to create artwork to give inspiration to aspiring entrants. The competition is also enlisting the help of five well-known judges from around the world:

• Steve Harding Hill – one of the top Aardman animation directors
• Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev – Artictic Director of dOCUMENTA 13
• Gitanjali Rao – Cannes Critic’s Week winner
• Mohamed Ghazala – Best Animation Award in African Movie Academy Awards
• Ross Dawson – author, leading futurist and entrepreneur
