Argentina-based Distribution Co. has picked up the rights to the Mexican-Argentinean co-production TOP CAT, based on the Hanna-Barbera character, reports Variety. The film is set to hit Latin American in September.

Mexico's Anima Estudios and Argentina's Illusion Studios produced the toon, which is 50% 3-D. It's the second film in Illusion's co-production deal with Anima. Distribution Co. released Illusion's previous film GATURRO.

Illusion is currently screening their newest feature EVA DE LA ARGENTINA, which mixes animation and archival footage telling the fiction account of real-life reporter Rodolfo Walsh's look into the life and death of Eva Peron. The project was a co-production with Azpeitia Cine.

It will only be released OUTSIDE North America? They probably know it sucks so badly that, in a country that KNOWS the material, it will never survive here. Top Cat had only so-so fanship here in the USA, although it did have its moments. Arnold Stang was boffo in the title role, though.
