Support Needed For Irish Film Festival in Los Angeles
Press Release from Los Angeles Irish Film Festival
We need your support. At the Los Angeles Irish Film Festival we understand that without the dedication, ingenuity, and hard work of our all volunteer staff to present the best Irish Film Festival in Los Angeles it would be impossible to continue with the festival or to build on our recent success. Your crucial support will help us in our third festival year to further the gains the LAIFF has made this year. Our audience more than doubled in 2009. Our website has had more than 26,000 viewers in just the past 6 months. Several of our co-presenters and partners have already expressed interest in the LAIFF 2010.
In only the past month we have been reminded that Irish film is a vital part of promoting Irish culture, creating and keeping film industry jobs in Ireland.
In December, the IFB budget was cut 5%. This may or may not affect the support the LAIFF will receive from the IFB in the coming year.
All arts funding remains uncertain in the current economic climate.
Filmmakers everywhere continue to struggle to produce and promote their films. The LAIFF is an important addition to the festival circuit for Irish filmmakers as they seek US support and distribution of their current and future projects. Screening in Los Angeles offers potential access to a host of press, distributors, and producers for Irish filmmakers.
Thanks to your support this year and in years past, LAIFF continues to look for and promote the very best of Irish cinema. This year the festival screened films that have gone on to even greater successes:
* The Secret of Kells has gotten theatrical distribution and been short listed for the 2010 Academy Awards in the feature animation category.
* Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty made the shortlist for 2010 Best Animated Short Oscar.
* Cherrybomb is being released in the UK through Universal.
* The Eclipse was named Best European Motion Picture at Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain.
* Waveriders has been released on DVD.
If you believe that the LAIFF has been beneficial in the promotion of Irish film and culture, then join us in our efforts to build that future. This year your tax-deductible contribution to LAIFF is more critical than ever. So please, be as generous as possible in support of the Los Angeles Irish Film Festival.
On behalf of all Irish filmmakers and lovers of Irish film, thank you.
