Softimage announced on Thursday, March 29, that it is restructuring its business operations, resulting in the loss of 47 jobs worldwide, 37 of which are coming from the company’s Montreal headquarters. Laid off employees will receive a severance package. Despite the cutbacks, more than 200 people will continue to be employed at the Montreal facility. According to Mike Stojda, the company’s new managing director of operations, "Today's restructuring is a measured move to ensure we remain flexible and competitive.” Stojda however remains optimistic about the long-range prospects for the recently-released Softimage/XSI product, a complete end-to-end 3D content creation production software package, and its impact on both the animation industry and Softimage overall.
