Shutter Island Shuts Out Competition on Opening Weekend

SHUTTER ISLAND grabbed the top spot at the box office over the weekend, Feb. 19-21, earning $40.2 million for Paramount. VALENTINE'S DAY came in second for its second week, earning $17.1 million for Warner Bros.

AVATAR stayed strong in its tenth week, earning the #3 spot and $16.1 million for Fox. PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF earned $15.3 million and the #4 spot for Fox.

THE WOLFMAN brought in nearly $9.9 million and the #5 spot for Universal. DEAR JOHN landed in the #6 spot with $7.3 million.

THE TOOTH FAIRY grabbed the #7 spot and $4.5 million for Fox. CRAZY HEART earned $3 million and the #8 spot.

FROM PARIS WITH LOVE brought in $2.5 million and the #9 spot for Lionsgate. EDGE OF DARKNESS rounded out the top ten with $2.2 million for Warner Bros.
