The Rite Stuff at the U.S. Box Office

New Line's THE RITE possessed the top spot at the U.S. box office for the weekend of Jan. 28-30, 2011. With vfx from Filmefex Studio, Kristyan Mallett Fx, Leonardo Cruciano Workshop, M.A.G. Special Effects, Method Studios and Multifilm Special Effects, the exorcism chiller scared up $15 million.

Paramount's NO STRINGS ATTACHED dangled into second with $13.7 million. The Natalie Portman romcom has a cume of $39.7 million.

CBS Film's action remake, THE MECHANIC, debuted in third with $11.5 million.

Columbia's THE GREEN HORNET nested in fourth with another $11.5 million. With vfx from CEG Media, CIS Hollywood, Luma Pictures and Proof, the former #1 has amassed $78.8 million to date.

In the weekend it cleaned up at the DGA and SAG Awards, The Weinstein Co.'s THE KING'S SPEECH landed in fifth with $11.1 million. With visual effects from Molinare Studio and Pixion, the Oscar frontrunner has spoken for $72.2 million thus far.

Paramount's TRUE GRIT rode into sixth with $7.6 million. With vfx from Creature Effects, Luma Pictures, Special FX International, Tinsley Studio and Wolf Stuntworks, the Coen Brothers oater has brought in $148.4 million.

Universal's THE DILEMMA sunk from third to seventh, adding $5.48 million to its $40.6 million cume.

Fox Searchlight's BLACK SWAN imagined itself in eighth place with $5.1 million. With vfx from Look Effects, the dark dance flick has made $90.7 million.

Paramount's THE FIGHTER slugged it out in ninth with $4.06 million. With visual effects from Comen VFX, the true-life tale has won $78.4 million to date.

Warner Bros.' YOGI BEAR closed out the top ten with $3.17 million. With vfx from Rhythm & Hues, Entity FX and NeoReel, the cartoon-inspired comedy has a cume of $92.5 million.
