Veteran vfx artist Richard Edlund is opening duMonde Visual Effects in New Orleans, reports Variety. WhoDoo EFX visual effects supervisor Helena Packer and GPI's Deborah Peters will be partnering with the special effects legend.

Part of the motivation for opening in Louisiana is the state's tax rebate program, which gives producers 30% back for every dollar spent over $300,000.

The new firm will offer visual effects supervision, compositing, 3D matte painting and on-set vfx coordination. Edlund hopes to tap into the young talent at local schools, such as Ringling in Florida.

Edlund won Oscars for his work on the first STAR WARS trilogy and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK.
