Kazakhstan's state film company, Kazakh Film, has joined the 3-D feature 1001 ARABIAN NIGHTS as a producer, reports Variety. Chuck Russell (THE MASK) is directing. Liam Hemsworth is starring.

The $70 million production will start production next June in Kazakhstan. The film will utilize medieval sets built for the Russian production NOMAD. Kazakh Film will invest around $10 million into the project. Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has been pushing for investment in the film industry over the last two years, spurring 30 features to be filmed there last year, including 23 supported by the government.

FilmDistrict will release the film in the States, while Inferno reps the global sales.
