Iron Man 2 An Iron Man at the Box Office

As expected, IRON MAN 2 cleaned up at the box office for the weekend of May 7-9, 2010. With visual effects from Industrial Light & Magic, Double Negative, Hydraulx, Centroid Motion Capture, The Embassy Visual Effects, Evil Eye Pictures, Fuel International, Legacy Effects, Lola Visual Effects, Pixel Liberation Front, Pixomondo, Prologue Films, Svengali Visual Effects, The Third Floor and Trixter Film, the Marvel superhero adaptation earned $133.6 million, making it the fifth best opening weekend of all time.

Last week's #1, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, plummeted 72.1%, collecting an additional $9.17 million. With vfx from Method Studios, the horror remake has earned $48.5 million thus far.

DreamWorks Animation's HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON landed in third with another $6.76 million. The animated hit has rounded up $201.1 million in total U.S. receipts.

DATE NIGHT reserved the #4 slot with $5.3 million, lifting its cume to $80.9 million. THE BACK-UP PLAN founds itself in fifth with $4.35 million, bringing its cume to $29.4 million.

FURRY VENGEANCE (with vfx from Furious FX and RotoFactory) made its mark at #6, caging another $4 million. The animals on the warpath flick has made $11.6 million.

Despite dropping 60.6%, CLASH OF THE TITANS remained in seventh place, earning an additional $2.31 million. With vfx by Framestore, The Moving Picture Company, Cinesite, CEG Media, Flash Film Works, Neil Corbould Special Effects, Nvizible, and Prime Focus View-D, the Greek epic has lassoed $157.8 million.

DEATH AT A FUNERAL buried another $2.1 million in eighth place, making its totals $38.3 million.

In ninth, THE LOSERS (vfx by Image Engine Design) pinched another $1.8 million, making its cume $21.5 million.

Focus Features' new doc, BABIES, rounded out the top 10 with $1.58 million in its debut weekend.
