Inception Bests Schmucks at Box Office

Warner Bros.' INCEPTION threepeated at the U.S. box office for the weekend of July 30 - August 2, 2010. With vfx from Double Negative, the hit thriller dreamed up another $27.5 million, lifting its cume to $193.3 million.

DreamWorks' comedy DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS debuted in second with $23.3 million.

Sony's SALT slipped to third with $19.3 million. With visual effects from CIS Vancouver, Framestore, Hirota Paint Industries (HPI), Lola Visual Effects, Proof and RhinoFX, the spy actioner has made $70.8 million to date.

Universal's DESPICABLE ME descended on fourth with an additional $15.5 million. The Illumination Ent. animated hit has a cume of $190.3 million.

Warner Bros.' CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE repelled into fifth with a debut weekend take of $12.5 million. Anibrain, Realscan 3D, Soho VFX, Svengali Visual Effects and Tippett Studio provided the visual effects.

The Zac Efron starrer CHARLIE ST. CLOUD premiered in sixth with $12.1 million. Mr. X provided the vfx.

TOY STORY 3 came in at #7, racking up another $5.04 million. The animated adventure has brought its cume to $389.7 million.

In at #8, GROWN UPS laughed in an additional $4.5 million. The Adam Sandler comedy raised its cume to $150.7 million.

Disney's THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE plummeted to ninth, rounding up $4.32 million. With Double Negative, Asylum VFX, Hirota Paint Industries (HPI), Method Studios, Realscan 3D and Rising Sun Pictures, the family fantasy flick brought its cume to $51.9 million.

Summit Ent.'s THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE rose in tenth with another $3.97 million. With vfx from Hatch Production, Image Engine Design, Lola Visual Effects, Rodeo FX, Tippett Studio and Wildfire Visual Effects, the supernatural romance has earned $288.2 million.
