ImageContinuing to dominate overseas, Ice Age: Continental Drift became the second highest-grossing animated release internationally this weekend, reaching $649.4 million.

According to a report by Variety, Fox and Blue Sky Studios have the top-ranking animated features with Drift predecessor, Dawn of the Dinosaurs, setting the overseas bar at $690 million.

Drift eclipsed Disney-Pixar's Toy Story 3 ($648.7 million) internationally by adding a revised $11.1 million to its overseas haul this past weekend.

The Fox animated feature actually gained ground during its fourth frame in China, collecting $3.8 million locally. And if playability continues elsewhere internationally, the fourth Ice Age installment could feasibly catch Dinosaurs, especially with Italy to bow September 28.

Dinosaurs grossed $887 million worldwide in 2009; Drift so far has amassed $800 million globally.

DreamWorks Animation's Shrek 2 holds the U.S. record for animated features with $441 million. Toy Story 3 set the worldwide benchmark in 2010, at $1.06 billion.
