Fox Goes 4Kids

Following in the footsteps of NBC, which recently leased its Saturday morning block to Discovery Networks, Fox Broadcasting has turned over its Saturday morning programming to 4Kids Entertainment, Inc. Beginning September 2002, 4Kids will provide all programming content for FOX's Saturday morning broadcast block, which commences at 8 am ET/PT (7 am CT). Fox hopes that 4Kids’ shows will help the network maintain its competitive edge in the key young boys’ demo. "The selection process was arduous, with many fine companies expressing interest," said FOX Television Entertainment Group chairman, Sandy Grushow. "This deal enables FOX to stay true to its guiding philosophy of providing a diverse slate of quality entertainment for children." Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, 4Kids will also have the right to retain all revenue from the network advertising sales during the time period. The agreement has an initial four-year term and extension options. It looks like 4Kids’ shows will be all over the dial on Saturday mornings, as the distributor already provides the POKEMON, CUBIX and YU-GI-OH! series to the Kids!WB Saturday morning block.
