Fox Breaks International Sales Record
20th Century Fox reached an estimated $2.26 billion in foreign ticket sales over the weekend, setting a new record at the international box office, VARIETY reports.
Sony titles have raked in slightly more than $2 billion internationally and Warner Bros. has grossed around $1.85 billion so far. The final tally for 2009 will be released after New Year's Day.
Fox was catapulted into the lead thanks to ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS, AVATAR and ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: THE SQUEAKQUEL. Fox's 2009 performance is being led by the 3-D cartoon ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS, which raked in $687.2 million, making it the third-highest international grossing film of all time.
Warner Bros. held the previous record at $2.24 billion in 2007.
