Roland Emmerich's THE ZONE is no more. The Hollywood Reporter says the reasons the $5 million production shut down are not completely unknown. Rumors have Emmerich and producers backing away from a found footage film now that the style is being overused.

Peter Mackenzie and Brandon Scott were set to play a veteran journalist and his new cameraman trying to cover an alien invasion.

Columbia Pictures was set to release the film.
