Actor Ryan Reynolds has been tapped to lead an all-star cast for DreamWorks Animation’s new feature film Turbo, which is set to reach theaters on July 19, 2013.

The story centers around Turbo (Reynolds), an ordinary garden snail who, after a freak accident gives him the power of incredible speed, focuses on his dream of becoming the greatest Indy race car driver in the world.

As reported by Kidscreen, David Soren (Merry Madagascar) is on board to direct the film based on his own original concept. The script is being co-written by Soren with Robert Siegel (The Wrestler) and Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After), and Lisa Stewart (Monsters vs. Aliens) is producing.

To date, DreamWorks Animation has released 23 animated feature films, including Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon.
