At a Wall Street analysts’ meeting in Orlando, Florida, Disney studio chairman Dick Cook commented on a new animation division and the possible release of SONG OF THE SOUTH. REUTERS reports that Cook announced the studio was setting up a new animation division in Glendale to produce sequels to various Disney/Pixar collaborations. The TOY STORY 3 feature would be the first film produced with a targeted release in 2008.

"They'll have individual projects in there, using the same technology and the same infrastructure that we have at the main location in feature animation, and it will primarily be doing sequels to Disney/Pixar films," Cook said.

Additionally, on IMDB.com, Cook was quoted as saying he was “confident” SONG OF THE SOUTH would be released on DVD. He said the title was the most requested by fans and the release would be handled in much the same way as the Walt Disney Treasure’s release ON THE FRONT LINES, where introductions by scholars would put racial stereotypes in a cultural context. The film celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2006.
