LOMPOC RECORD reports that Café FX has gone on hiatus, while it retools its business model. The Santa Maria-based vfx studio is contemplating a move to Texas or Los Angeles. CEO Jeff Barnes says the move to Texas would give the vfx company access to state tax incentives. The final decision will depend on outside investments in the company.

Barnes started the company with David Ebner in 1993 as Computer Cafe. The firm started working on commercials and moved to feature films in 1995 with LORD OF ILLUSION.

Café FX closed its Santa Monica arm, The Syndicate, in March.
