Bridges Gives The Giver Another Try
Jeff Bridges and producer Nikki Silver have acquired the rights to Lois Lowry's THE GIVER, reports Variety. This won't be the first time the duo has tried to adapt the sci-fi tale. After developing it for years, in 2007, they set it up at Warner Bros. and Red Wagon. Because the project stalled there, they picked up the rights when they became available and have set it up at On Screen Ent.
In a future where human history has been wiped out of memory and emotion has been medicated away, the story follows a 12-year-old who is selected to become the next Giver, who is the holder of all human emotions.
Vadim Perelman (THE HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG) will adapt the script. Bridges, Silver, John Heyman and Neil Koenigsberg are the producers.
