Seth MacFarlane’s raunchy comedy Ted, starring Mark Wahlberg, made one of the best R-rated comedy debuts ever, bringing in $54.1 million on its first weekend out. Originally slated for release between The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises, the film benefited when it took the place of Universal’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which was bumped to March 2013.

Director Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike had to settle for second place for its debut, bringing in $39.2 million. The Warner Bros. male-stripper film is the third Chanum Tatum movie this year to open north of $36 million.

In third place, Pixar’s Brave brought in $34 million on its second weekend at the box office for a total of $131.7 million.

Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection took fourth place this weekend, earning $26.4 million on its debut, which ranks fourth all-time among Tyler Perry’s movies.

At number five, DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted brought in $11.8 million on its fourth weekend out for a domestic total of $180 million.

In its second weekend out, Fox’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter came in sixth place, making $6 million for a total of $29 million.

Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic Prometheus came in 7th place, bringing in $4.9 million on its fourth weekend out for a total of $118.3 million.

At eighth place, Moonrise Kingdom made $4.9 million on its sixth weekend at the box office for a total of $18.4 million.

Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman came in at number nine at its fifth weekend at the box office, making   $4.4 million for a total of $145.6 million

Rounding out the list at number ten, People Like Us, starring Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks, had its debut at $4.3 million.
