With its broadly-appealing premise, popular lead actors and a well-executed marketing campaign, Sony and MGM’s 21 Jump Street cruised in to first place at the box office, earning $35 million over the weekend.

Universal and Illumination Entertainment's environmentally themed Dr. Seuss' The Lorax held steady in second place, earning $22.8 million this weekend for a total of $158.4 million.

Disney’s sci-fi 3D epic John Carter came in third place with $13.5 million for a total of $53.2 million.

Warner Bros. found footage comedy Project X came in a fourth place, earning $4 million for a total of $48.1 million.

Paramount and DreamWorks’ A Thousand Words, starring Eddie Murphy, crept up to fifth place after last week’s debut, earning $3.8 million for a total of $12.1 million.

At sixth place, Relativity Media's Act of Valor continued to perform well, earning $3.7 million for a total of $62.4 million.

Universal’s Safe House held at seventh place, bringing in $2.8 million for a total of $120.2 million.

Coming in at number eight, the 3D feature Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, from New Line and Warner Bros., earned $2.5 million for a total of $95.1 million.

Will Ferall’s Spanish-language Casa de Mi Padre, from Lionsgate, made its limited debut, opening in 382 theaters and earning an estimated $2.2 million to come in number nine.

Fox’s This Means War came in tenth place, earning $2.1 million for a total of $50.5 million.
