Press Release from Fandango

James Cameron’s Avatar currently represents 87% of weekly ticket sales on Fandango, the nation’s leading movie ticketing destination. The highly-anticipated 3D adventure, opening tonight at midnight, has already sold out hundreds of showtimes across the country, from Buford, Georgia to Roseville, California.

According to a survey of Avatar ticket-buyers on Fandango (as of 8:00 a.m. PT this morning):

* 72% indicate that the film’s positive reviews have increased their interest in seeing the movie.

* 70% claim they do not care about the film's budget.

* 37% of men (surveyed by Fandango) plan to bring a date with them to see Avatar.

Currently, Avatar is outselling Star Trek in advance ticket sales at the same point in that film’s sales cycle – a significant achievement considering that Avatar is a true original (not based on a TV show, novel, comic book, toy or previous movie). Avatar tickets first went on sale on August 21, 2009.
