Digital effects designer Cassie Scroggins of Minneapolis-based Hi-Wire recently finished a complete visual identity, including a logo, program open, interstitials and graphical interface, for DragonflyTV, a PBS program created by Twin Cities Public Television (TPT). DragonflyTV, a new children’s program that began airing on PBS stations nationwide on January 19, 2002, is geared towards children ages 9-12 and features ordinary children and their own science investigations. The show’s focus, real kids doing real science, is highlighted in the 30-second open with multiple layers of vibrant colors and graphics composited over footage of kids participating in science projects. The shades of blue, green and orange used in the open are representative of the show’s logo, which consists of abstract, geometric shapes that form a dragonfly. TPT co-producer Gloria Bremer wanted the open to have an abstract look, "Cassie provided us with 20 original and unique logo designs," explained Bremer. "We didn’t want the logo to be gender-specific or too techno, and we wanted to make it clear that it was a dragonfly. I think Cassie created a timeless icon." Scroggins composited, edited and designed the numerous elements and footage involved in Inferno.
