Brickyard VFX Expands 3D Team

Artist owned-and-operated effects boutique Brickyard VFX has hired lead 3D artist Julian Sarmiento to join the CG division. He joins co-heads of the CG department, Robert Sethi and Yafei Wu.

Saramiento joins Brickyard VFX from Sony Pictures Imageworks, where he worked in motion capture, facial animation and 3D modeling, respectively, on THE POLAR EXPRESS, MONSTER HOUSE and the upcoming Robert Zemeckis-directed BEOWULF. Prior to that, as one of two lead facial animation artists at Digital Domain, Sarmiento developed facial deformation techniques to lend to the photorealistic look of the main character Sonny on I, ROBOT. Sarmiento began his career at NBC's Enteraktion Studios in Florida where, as head of the art department, he developed a custom pipeline to integrate 3D elements and characters with live-action environments in realtime.

Sarmiento is a well-respected Autodesk Maya expert. He has been a featured speaker at the Maya 3December events and also authored the MAYA TRAINING SERIES 1 DVD set for Total Training. Saramiento is a graduate of the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and holds a degree in computer animation.

"Julian brings an excellent level of quality and broad span of experience to our 3D team," said Brickyard VFX co-owner Steve Michaels. "I look forward to adding his talents to our experienced CG team for both spot and upcoming feature film projects."

"Working with Brickyard is a fantastic opportunity and I'm looking forward to joining a great group of people," said Sarmiento. "I started my career in television, and I look forward to getting back to the fast-paced production environment where projects are turned around in weeks rather than months and years. Another aspect of spot-work that I enjoy is the ability to complete an individual shot from start to finish and work closely with directors and creative talents on-and-off the set to make sure you_re helping bring their creative vision to life."

Located in Boston and Santa Monica, Brickyard VFX (www.brickyardvfx.com) is an independent visual effects boutique specializing in top quality visual effects from 3D characters through to compositing. Completely artist owned and operated, the company was founded in 1999 to bring clients a level of customer service, craftsmanship and focus difficult to find at facilities today. Brickyard's problem-solving expertise on set and in the studio has been applied to model, animate, light, texture, track, rotoscope, color correct and render seamless digital effects for XM Radio, Citibank, Volkswagen, Target, Tyson Foods and many other accounts.
