THE CRAZIES director Breck Eisner is chatting with New Line to take the helm of its remake of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, reports VARIETY. Neal H. Moritz's Original Films and Canal Plus are producing.

This news brings life back to a project that has been in development hell. In 2007, Gerard Butler had signed on to play Snake Plissken, but exited over creative differences.
