Warner Bros. and Brad Pitt are going to team with George Miller to adapt Homer's epic poem THE ODYSSEY to the big screen, per VARIETY.
WB had a hit four years ago with the Pitt-led TROY, based on the Greek poet's other epic poem, THE ILIAD, and hopes to translate the story to a futuristic setting in outer space.
WB has kept quiet so far, but the early hope is that Pitt will star and Miller with direct, with Pitt's Plan B producing. TROY featured Pitt as doomed hero Achilles and Wolfgang Petersen directing from David Benioff's adaptation.
THE ODYSSEY focuses on the adventures of Odysseus, who came up with the idea for the Trojan Horse, as he makes the years-long journey back home to Ithaca after the fall of Troy. The poem is estimated to have been written near the end of the eighth century B.C., and has been the source of hundreds of derivative works.
Miller is still attached to direct JUSTICE LEAGUE at WB. Pitt is currently filming Quentin Tarantino's recently re-spelled WWII film INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS and will next be seen in the holiday release of THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON from David Fincher and Terrence Malick's TREE OF LIFE.
