Box Office Results: Moviegoers Hear A Who

CG-animated DR. SEUSS' HORTON HEARS A WHO! won over the weekend (ending March 16) box office in its debut, grossing more than $45 million.

The Fox adaptation of the classic Seuss book opened in 3,954 theaters for an average of $11,406 per screen.

Winning the No. 2 spot was 10,000 B.C. (Warner Bros, vfx by MPC and Double Negative) with an additional $16.4 million take.

New release NEVER BACK DOWN (Summit Entertainment) made just $8.6 million, fighting its way into third place.

Disney's COLLEGE ROAD TRIP (vfx by Digital Pictures Iloura, Furious FX and RotoFactory) did another $7.9M, placing it fourth.

In fifth place was VANTAGE POINT with $5.4M.

The Sony film with vfx by CIS has made $59.2M over four weeks.

Jason Statham-led THE BANK JOB (Lionsgate, vfx by Digital Pictures Iloura) added $4.9M to its total take of $13.1M over two weeks, good enough for sixth place.

Apocalyptic mash up thriller DOOMSDAY (Universal, vfx by Machine and The Senate Visual Effects) debuted in seventh place with $4.7M.

Eighth place went to Will Ferrell laffer SEMI-PRO (New Line) with $3M, dropping again from fifth place last week.

THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL (Sony, vfx by Moving Picture Company) pulled in $2.9M for $19.2M over three weeks, placing ninth.

And in 10th place, Paramount's kids fantasy flick THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES (vfx by Tippett Studio and ILM) made $2.39M for a total five-week gross of $65.4M.

In animated films, PERSEPOLIS (Sony Pictures Classics) grossed an additional $45,700, for a 12 week total of a little more than $4 million.

Roadside Attractions' CHICAGO 10 earned another $23,200 on 13 screens.
