Box Office Report: 'Paranormal 4' Wins with $30.2 Million

Paramount's “Paranormal Activity 4” tops the domestic box office chart this weekend, with holdovers “Argo” and “Hotel Transylvania” trailing close behind.

Paramount's Paranormal Activity 4 topped the domestic box office chart with $30.2 million, but lagged behind the past two films in the hit Halloween franchise at the domestic box office. Overseas, the R-rated feature opened to $26.5 million for a worldwide debut of $56.7 million. The fourth installment in the popular horror franchise reportedly cost $5 million to produce.

Ben Affleck’s period political thriller Argo placed number two this weekend, grossing $16.6 million for a domestic total of $43.2 million.

Sony's hit 3D animated feature Hotel Transylvania came in at number three, bringing in $13.5 million for a domestic total of $119 million. Worldwide, the film has earned $187.3 million.

Taken 2 jumped the $100 million mark in its third weekend, grossing $13.4 million for a domestic haul of $106 million. Internationally, the sequel now has earned a massive $175.7 for a worldwide total of $281.7 million.

In fifth place, Summit Entertainment’s Alex Cross, starring Tyler Perry as the fabled Washington, D.C., detective popularized in James Patterson's book series, debuted this weekend, bringing in $11.8 million.

Summit Entertainment's pre-Halloween feature Sinister came in sixth place this weekend, taking in $9 million for a total of $32 million.

Sony family comedy Here Comes the Boom, starring Kevin James, came in seventh place on its sophomore weekend, taking in $8.5 million for a total of $22.3 million.

Universal musical comedy Pitch Perfect placed number eight on the box office chart on its fourth weekend out, earning $7 million for a total of $45.8 million.

Tim Burton’s 3D black-and-white, stop-motion-animated Frankenweenie came in ninth place this weekend, taking in $4.4 million for a total of $28.3 million.

Rounding out the list at number 10, Looper, released by Sony's TriStar label in tandem with FilmDistrict and Endgame Entertainment, brought in $4.2 million for a total of $57.8 million.
