Box Office Report: 'Guardians' Top Animated Feature

Sam Mendes' James Bond film “Skyfall” reclaims the number one spot on its fifth outing at the weekend box office, followed by DreamWorks Animation and Paramount's holiday-themed “Rise of the Guardians.”

Sam Mendes' James Bond film Skyfall reclaimed the number one spot on its fifth outing at the weekend box office, bringing in $11 million for a domestic total of $261.6 million. Skyfall continues to shatter records, becoming the highest-grossing movie released by Sony with $918 million in worldwide sales, and beating Spider-Man 3 ($890 million).

DreamWorks Animation and Paramount's holiday-themed Rise of the Guardians climbed up the chart to number two, grossing $10.5 million. The 3D animated feature has earned $61.9 million domestically to date. Overseas, Guardians earned $26 million for an international total of $90.5 million, bringing the worldwide haul to $152.7 million.

Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn 2 came in third with $9.2 million, becoming the highest grossing title in the franchise with a worldwide total of $751.1 million.

Steven Spielberg's Lincoln came in fourth with $9.1 million. The historical drama has now brought in a total of $97.3 million for DreamWorks and Disney.

For the third-straight weekend, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi wound up in fifth place, earning $8.3 million for a domestic total of $60.9 million. Overseas, the 3D adventure crossed the $100 million mark, earning $68.3 million in China, and surpassing the entire runs of The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man. Life of Pi’s international total is $105.7 million for a worldwide total of $166.6 million.

In sixth place, the soccer-themed romantic comedy Playing for Keeps, starring Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Uma Thurman, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Dennis Quaid, brought in just $6 million on its debut weekend.

Disney Animation Studios' Wreck-It Ralph came in at number seven in its sixth weekend at the box office, earning $4.9 million for a domestic total of $164.4 million.

MGM and FilmDistrict's long-delayed Red Dawn remake came in eighth place again on its third weekend at the box office, bringing in $4.3 million for a domestic total of $37.3 million.

Paramount's Flight, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Denzel Washington, came in ninth place again this weekend, earning $3.1 million for a total of $86.2 million.

Rounding out the list at number 10, Brad Pitt's independent crime drama Killing Them Softly, from The Weinstein Co., brought in $2.7 million on its sophomore weekend out for a total of $11.8 million.
