Boston, London and Chicago Love WALL-E

Film critics associations from Boston, London and Chicago are heaping more awards on WALL-E.

The Boston Society of Film Critics, who give out their awards on February 9, announced a tie for Best Picture between WALL-E and SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE. Best Animated Film also went to WALL-E.

WALL-E picked up Best Picture and Best Animated Feature from the Chicago Film Critics Association Awards, also winning for Best Original Score (Thomas Newman) and Best Original Screenplay (Andrew Stanton & Jim Reardon).

The awards, voted on by the 55 members of the organization (covering print, radio, television and the Internet) were announced on December 19 on WGN-TV by CFCA president Dann Gire and group members Dean Richards and Richard Roeper.

Per VARIETY, the London Film Circle Critics picked WALL-E as a contender for Film of the Year, alongside THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, FROST/NIXON, MILK and THE WRESTLER.

WALTZ WITH BASHIR was nominated for Foreign Language Film of the Year with GOMORRAH, I'VE LOVED YOU SO LONG, THE ORPHANAGE and PERSEPOLIS (also animated, and an Oscar nominee for Best Animated Feature last year).

The 29th Awards will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on February 4, 2009.
