Boomerang Offers Jonny Quest New Year Marathon

Boomerang, Cartoon Network's 24-hour commercial-free classic animation network, will greet the new year with a full-day marathon on New Year's Eve (Dec. 31, starting at 8:00 am) to spotlight THE ADVENTURES OF JONNY QUEST. Entitled, A Hadji New Year, the holiday stunt will feature 26 original half-hour episodes from the 1964 series, as well as two made-for-television feature films JONNY'S GOLDEN QUEST (1993) and JONNY QUEST VS. THE CYBER INSECTS (1995) produced by the Hanna-Barbera Animation Studios.

"JONNY QUEST earned its unique position in the history of animation by being the first animated program to depict realistic human characters in an action-adventure genre," saidMark Norman, svp/gm of Boomerang. "Fans may also recall that it premiered on network television in primetime, a worthy follow-up to Hanna-Barbera's phenomenal success with THE FLINTSTONES. This year-end showcase provides a wonderful opportunity for baby boomers to revisit their memories of this pioneering program, as well as an ideal time to introduce their own kids to a great action-adventure character."

A sixties nostalgic favorite, THE ADVENTURES OF JONNY QUEST was developed by artist Doug Wildey for Hanna-Barbera Prods. in 1964. The series recounts the fantastic experiences of 11-year-old Jonny and his brilliant scientist father, Dr. Benton Quest. Accompanied by bodyguard-tutor Roger "Race" Bannon, a mysterious Indian boy named Hadji and a fearless bulldog Bandit, they embark on a global expedition that becomes more exciting and dangerous with each stop.

JONNY'S GOLDEN QUEST, a two-hour original telefilm, pits Jonny, Dr. Quest, Race Bannon and Hadji against the evil Dr. Zin and his ecosystem-threatening genetic mutants in a global chase that takes them to such international locals as Peru, Tokyo, Rome and Australia. JONNY QUEST VS. THE CYBER INSECTS forces the Quest Team to match wits with the evil Dr. Zin (he's baaaack!) and his army of genetically engineered insects that wreak havoc on Earth's climate through the use of high-tech satellites. Both films will play back-to-back on Dec. 31, from 1:30-4:00 pm and 9:30 pm-midnight, and Jan. 1, from 5:30-8:00 am.
