Boomerang Celebrates The Season With A Month-Long Christmas Party

Boomerang, Turner Broadcasting System’s commercial-free classic cartoon network, will present holiday specials of yesteryear throughout December as part of a month-long CHRISTMAS PARTY.

Press Release from Boomerang Boomerang, Turner Broadcasting System’s commercial-free classic cartoon network, will present holiday specials of yesteryear throughout December as part of a month-long CHRISTMAS PARTY.  Two hours of holiday programming will entertain families every Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m., culminating in a marathon of cheer beginning at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve.  The marathon brings a full 24-hours of special programming on Christmas Day, continuing through the night and closing with “A Johnny Bravo Christmas” at 5:30 a.m. Dec. 26.

The spotlighted guests of this party, from Popeye the Sailor to Papa Smurf, span seven decades of cartoon history from the 1930s to the 2000s.  This Christmas Party will spotlight not only how favorite animated families like the Flintstones and the Jetsons ring in the holidays, but will also feature Emmy-nominated one-of-a-kind specials like The Town That Santa Forgot.  Cartoon Network’s original classics join the festivities as Boomerang features holiday specials such as The Powerpuff Girls “’Twas the Fight Before Christmas” and Dexter’s Laboratory “Dexter vs. Santa’s Claws.”

“Boomerang’s ‘Christmas Party’ takes us back to a time when families would gather around the television for their annual favorites,” said Stacy Isenhower, senior vice president of programming and scheduling for Boomerang and Cartoon Network.  “The season truly is about family and togetherness, and our programming helps honor that tradition.”

Highlights of the Boomerang CHRISTMAS PARTY include:* Yogi’s First Christmas (1980), Sunday, Dec. 5, 4 p.m. (encores Dec. 24 at 10:30 p.m., Dec. 25 at 12:30 and 10 p.m.) :  Hanna-Barbera’s most beloved classic characters, including Huckleberry Hound and Snagglepuss, join Yogi at Jellystone Lodge for a Christmas celebration in this much-loved holiday movie.

* Casper’s First Christmas (1979), Saturday, Dec. 11, 5:35 p.m.:  A joyful group of cartoon friends visit Casper on Christmas Eve.  Hairy Scary tries to scare their Christmas spirits away until a touching gesture changes his heart.

* The Town That Santa Forgot (1993), Sunday, Dec. 19, 4 p.m.:  Dick van Dyke stars as the voice of a kind grandfather relaying the tale of Jeremy Creek, a spoiled boy who learns it is better to give than to receive.

* A Flintstones Christmas Carol (1994), Friday, Dec. 24, 4 p.m.:  Christmas is nearly ruined when Fred, who plays Ebenezer Scrooge in a Bedrock Community Players Christmas production, becomes a true-life Scrooge himself.

* The Powerpuff Girls: ’Twas the Fight Before Christmas (2003), Saturday, Dec. 25, 6:30 p..m.:  The Powerpuff Girls are busy saving Christmas everywhere when Princess, Townsville’s greediest little girl, plots to trick Santa into turning her into the fourth Powerpuff Girl.  Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup explode into a Yuletide winter blizzard of bad-girl-thwarting action to put Princess in her place and keep Christmas from disappearing forever.
