Daws Butler was greater than your average voice actor, tiny like Elroy Jetson and loeable as Huckleberry Hound, stars he created the voice for and hundreds more before he passed away in 1988. On Nov. 16, 2004, to celebrate what would have been Butler’s 89th birthday, Bear Manor Media releases his authorized biography DAWS BUTLER: CHARACTERS ACTOR, which takes a revealing look at the surprising and charmed life of the man who many consider to be the greatest voice magician of the 20th Century.

Co-written by former Butler’s protégé and veteran radio producer, Joe Bevilacqua, and author/historian, Ben Ohmart, the book features personal reminisces by Butler’s colleagues, including Joe Barbera, Bill Hanna, Doug Young (Doggy Daddy), Don Messick (Boo Boo, Ranger Smith), June Foray (Rocky the Flying Squirrel) and Stan Freberg, as well as his friends and family.

In the biography, Butler tells his own story, through never-before-published interviews, letters and personal phone conversations. In addition, Nancy Cartwright pays loving tribute to her mentor in the book's foreword.

How did Daws create the voice of Huckleberry Hound? What did comedian Bert Lahr think of Snagglepuss? Who made the first Cecil, the Seasick Sea Serpent puppet? What was the Daws Butler Workshop? What was it like having Yogi Bear as a dad?

Some of his other memorable voices included Quick Draw McGraw, Baba Looey, Super Snooper, Blabbermouse, Snagglepuss, Augie Doggy, Mr. Jinks, Wally Gator, Hokey Wolf, Fibber Fox, Lippy the Lion, Peter Potamus and Cap'n Crunch. He worked with nearly every major animation director, including Barbera, Jay Ward, Walter Lantz, Chuck Jones, and Tex Avery. He worked puppets for Bob Clampett (Beany and Cecil). Fans included Groucho, Harpo, Lionel Barrymore and even Albert Einstein. Plus his collaborations with satirist Freberg sold millions of records.

DAWS BUTLER: CHARACTER'S ACTOR sells for $24.95 plus $2 postage (foreign orders please add an additional $3 for airmail). Go to: www.dawsbutler.com for more details or order directly at: http://bearmanormedia.bizland.com/id20.html.
