Blur Studio Creates Graphics for Teen Choice Awards

Blur Studio took on a pool party-theme for the graphics package for THE 2004 TEEN CHOICE AWARDS -- the sixth straight year that it has supplied creative for the popular Fox television special. Blur's design team combined watercolor textures with sleek architectural style drawings resulting in an modern aesthetic that evokes a relaxed California lifestyle.

"We design everything from the signature surfboard award to every last keyable element and set monitor fill to completely brand the show, said Blur Studio creative director/designer Norn Kittiaksorn. "Each year we build on that brand, taking a fresh, ground-breaking perspective on teenage trends. This year we embraced the idea of pulling the audience into illustrative, passionate watercolor paintings symbolizing the expression of teens' individuality and originality."

The graphics package included a show open where a young woman swims over the show logo, which ripples on the bottom of a glistening swimming pool. All of the graphic elements, which also include category headers, winner banners, bumpers and background plates, are based on single environment: an ultra-modern pool and patio attached to a contemporary home, all rendered in 3D.

"The beauty of working with the same great clients for so many years on an ever-changing, every-growing show like this one, is that a certain level of trust is developed and with that comes comfort. Blur gets to experiment, spread our wings and have fun," said Blur Studio creative director Jennifer Miller.

Credits for Blur Studio go to Norn Kittiaksorn and Jennifer Miller, creative directors; Norn Kittiaksorn, senior designer, Jayson Whitmore, Adam Swaab, David Chartier, Emmett Dzieza, animators and Beth Elder, producer. THE 2004 TEEN CHOICE AWARDS were produced by Bob Bain Prods for Fox Television and aired on Aug. 11, 2004.
