Jan Carlee, a director with broad experience spanning animation and visual effects for feature films and commercials, has joined Wild Brains director roster. He will direct projects for commercials, television and film, as well as be an integral part of Wild Brains on-going development efforts in the feature film arena.
Carlee spent a long-term stint at Blue Sky Studios, where he was the sequence director on ICE AGE, JOES APARTMENT and TITAN A.E., a commercial director on award-winning commercials (Brother Glitches, Motts Fruitsations and Natures Resource) and animation director on ALIEN RESURRECTION.
Jan has an amazing portfolio of work with techniques ranging from traditional cel animation to CG character animation and photorealistic effects, said Andrea Mansour, head of commercials. Prior to Blue Sky, Carlee was the head of digital imagery for Don Bluth Entertainment in Dublin Ireland from 1989 to 1993, where he worked on the animated feature film THUMBELINA whose footage was subsequently chosen and shown at the SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater in 1993.
Carlee also worked at R/Greenberg Associates in New York City from 1984 to 1989, where he won several awards for his commercial work such as the IBM Fractals and Bell Atlantic Integration spots.
Carlee has been working in the animation industry for the past 25 years exploring and combining traditional animation and film techniques with digital technology. Beginning in the industry as a 2D animator and then as a rostrom animation cameraman, Carlee's initial foray into computer animation started with a company called MAGI/Synthavision in Elmsford, New York. His arrival coincided with the completion of the company's digital footage for the movie TRON and their expansion into the commercial marketplace.
