BBC Motion Gallery Debuts Royalty-Free Collections

BBC Motion Gallery, the clip and short form program licensing division of BBC Worldwide, announced the debut of royalty-free footage collections available for purchase through its newly redesigned website, featuring immediate access to production-ready clips, improved search functions, and both clickless previews and large-screen previews in QuickTime 7.

With more than 11,000 royalty free clips available in almost 200 categories, footage can be licensed and downloaded directly from the website on a per-clip basis, or delivered on DVD as entire collections. Once a royalty-free clip has been licensed it can be used as many times, and in as many projects, as the client requires. The extensive selection of royalty free material offers a cost effective solution for users who need high-quality, professional clips in genres such as action, business, fitness, education, health care, natural history, lifestyle, historical events, people, science, technology, travel and more.

"Whenever possible, I work with BBC Motion Gallery to obtain my film or video clips," said Susan Nickerson, owner, Nickerson Research. "The footage and the scope of their subjects is fantastic, but sometimes, production budgets just won't allow for rights-managed footage. The addition of a royalty free collection will enable even the most budget-challenged production, whether it is a commercial, film or lower-budget corporate video, to utilize the amazing BBC library. This new royalty free collection means that some of the more cost conscious productions will be able to deliver an incredible bang for the buck and I am eager to explore and utilize this material on behalf of my clients."

"With the introduction of a fast-growing line of royalty-free footage, BBC Motion Gallery takes another step forward in its goal of being a one-stop resource for our clients," added Jan Ross, svp, BBC Motion Gallery. "Now we offer a full range of content at all price points, from clips to short programs. Our offerings include some of the most-respected footage archives in the world, including CBS News, NHK and the Australian Broadcasting Corp., to name a few. All of this material and more is now available through our elegant new site interface, driven by our clients who requested larger online clip previews and instant accessibility to production-ready content."

These oversized previews contain a rich body of searchable metadata, one of many features to expedite production workflow. And the newly reinvented site will also launch with an updated version of BBC Motion Gallery's popular Search Widget, previously among the 10 most popular on Apple's website. The Widget, now at version 2.0, allows users to search for royalty-free or rights-managed footage, or both, almost instantly without having to launch a browser.
