Boyd Kirkland, who directed episodes of BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, has passed away, according to The Animation Guild Blog.

Boyd Kirkland, who directed episodes of BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, has passed away, according to The Animation Guild Blog. He was waiting for a lung transplant. He died on Jan. 28th at the age of 60.

His other directing credits include the features BATMAN: SUBZERO and HAPPILY N'EVER AFTER 2 and TV series X-MEN: EVOLUTION and WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN. He was a sequence director on BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM.

In addition to directing, he received writing credits on BATMAN and X-MEN: EVOLUTION, as well as the ULTIMATE AVENGERS direct-to-DVD titles.

Throughout his career, he also worked as a storyboard and layout artist, as well as a producer and character designer.
