BAFTA Winners Announced

THE AVIATOR has won four BAFTAs at the Feb. 12, 2005, Orange British Academy Film Awards. Martin Scorseses Howard Hughes biopic received awards in the categories Film, Actress in a Supporting Role for Cate Blanchett, Make-Up & Hair and Production Design. The effects on the film were done by Camera e-Motion, New Deal Studios and Sony Pictures Imageworks.

Also in the effects realm, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND won BAFTAs for Original Screenplay and Editing, while THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW (with vfx by Digital Domain, Hydraulx, ILM, The Orphanage, Custom Film Effects, among others) won the Award for Achievement in Special Visual Effects. The Orange Film of the Year, the only award presented at the ceremony that is voted for by members of the public, went to HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (with vfx by ILM, Cinesite (Europe), Double Negative, Framestore CFC and The Moving Picture Co.).

The award for Short Animation went to BIRTHDAY BOY.

The awards were hosted for the fifth time by Stephen Fry and took place at the Odeon, Leicester Square. They were produced by Initial (part of Endemol UK) and broadcast on BBC ONE the same evening.
