Backyardigan Special Kicks Off Week Of Pirate-Themed Episodes

Ahoy mini mateys! Preschooler pirates will learn to swashbuckle, heave ho and scalawag as they join the Back-yAAR-digans in the new half-hour special adventure "Pirate Camp," premiering Monday, June 9, at 9 a.m. (ET/PT) on Nick Jr.

The half-hour special of THE BACKYARDIGANS, which takes the backyard pals on a high seas adventure to pirate camp, is followed by the premiere of a brand-new episode of THE WONDER PETS! titled "Save the Pirate Parrot!" at 10 a.m. (ET/PT).

Nick Jr.'s pirate-themed week will feature additional episodes of THE BACKYARDIGANS, and episodes of hit Nick Jr. series DORA THE EXPLORER, WOW! WOW! WUBBZY! and MAX & RUBY from Monday, June 9, to Friday, June 13.

In "Pirate Camp," Uniqua really wants to be a pirate, so she convinces a fearful Pablo to join her at Camp Walk-A-Planka. Under the tutelage of the great pirate captain Austin, the campers learn about "pirattitude" and dance the scalawag to a Garage Band soundtrack. When Austin is captured by pirate captain Red Boots, a fearsome ghost played by Tasha, it's up to the pirate campers to use their "pirattitude" to help set him free. But can they escape being tickled and turned into ghosts by captain Red Boots?

Beginning June 2, Nick Jr. Video, Nick Jr.'s broadband video service available on Nickjr.com, will begin streaming clips from "Pirate Camp," and instant replays of both "Pirate Camp" and "Save the Pirate Parrot!" In addition, a two-minute 'sneak peek' from "Pirate Camp," and pirate-themed clips from Nick Jr. shows will be available on wireless carriers.

In every episode of THE BACKYARDIGANS, five high-spirited neighbors meet in their adjoining backyards and use their imaginations to transform themselves into different locations for epic adventures. THE BACKYARDIGANS are: Pablo, an energetic, enthusiastic and excitable penguin; Pablo's best friend Tyrone, an easy-going, confident young moose; Uniqua, a one-of-a-kind character with an adventurous nature; Tasha, a deceptively sweet and girlish hippo; and Austin, a resourceful and shy kangaroo.

Each half-hour episode of THE BACKYARDIGANS features a unique music/dance genre with four original songs, along with real choreographed movements recreated in animation. The animated dance steps are choreographed by Beth Bogush, a former director of the Alvin Ailey Dance School's children's program. The show's rich animation style features lush, fantasy backgrounds created with CG and 3D techniques.
