When the day broke on Tuesday, an old man wasn't humdrum about joining a

list of Oscar nominees that included three misses and my grandmother who

irons shirts! The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has released

its list of nominations for this year's Oscar competition. In the category

of animated short films the nominees are: Aardman Animations' Peter Peaks'

"Humdrum;" Torril Cove's "My Grandmother Ironed The King's Shirts;"

Alexander Petrov's oil paint on glass in IMAX format "The Old Man And The

Sea;" Paul Driessen's enigmatic "3 Misses;" and Wendy Tilby and Amanda

Forbis' "When The Day Breaks," which has won first place at both the Annecy

and Cannes film festivals. March 26th will be the Big Night, the 72nd

Academy Awards, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and

Sciences. For a few moments when the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film is

presented, animation is given its just place next to the likes of such

mainstream blockbusters as "American Beauty." This year, again, AWN will be

THE place to go to see clips of all the animation nominees. Nominees are

featured on AWN with 15-30 second Quicktime clips, a brief summary of the

film, pictures and the director's thoughts. Plus, you can vote for which

one you think should be the big winner on awards night. We will announce

our winner the day of the Oscars and see if the knowledgeable readership of

AWN is right on target. Last year we were, for the second year in a row -

an overwhelming number of AWN visitors chose the ultimately victorious

"Bunny." See the creme de la creme, and then express yourself and cast a

vote!
