Freshmen at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia generally take a year of foundation courses (drawing, 2D design, 3D work) before plunging into their major. Future animation majors can, and often do, take a short course called "Freshman Animation" their first year. They learn some about the medium and its history, and create some short animations.
