German post-production house Das Werk has announced their intention to acquire a majority stake in UK effects house Glassworks. The parties are aiming to achieve a definitive agreement early next year. Das Werk is a well-known provider of post-production services, from scanning and archiving, to editing and composing. London-based Glassworks is a leading facility in digital effects, combining expertise in 3D computer-generated imaging with high-end compositing and special effects. Glassworks will become an integral part of Das Werk's line of animation services and products. Glassworks' computer software developments for 3D animation will be beneficiary to Das Werk's products like Tons of Toons or Trixter. The software Fur Shader, which helps to give computer-generated hair and fur a more realistic look, has been licensed by Softimage. In the future, Das Werk subsidiary Crater Software in Montreal, Canada will distribute Glassworks' software developments.
