It's STAR TREK week on VFXWORLD, as we look at how ILM helped J.J. Abrams put the franchise on steroids with his bold reboot. New Fracture software and other procedural rendering and volumetric shader tools helped create a much harder space movie under the supervision of Roger Guyett. Separately, Neville Page, the busy character designer, discusses the challenges of designing Big Red and Polarilla from the Ice Planet, Delta Vega. Meanwhile, as the fifth season of LOST concludes this week, Karen Raugust chats with VFX Supervisor Mitch Suskin about some of the latest wrinkles.
