The 19th Brussels Cartoon and Animated Film Festival will take place

February 28-March 11, 2000. 128 films have been selected for the official

competition, 119 shorts and 9 features, representing 22 countries. The list

of all selected films is available on-line. In addition to the feature

program, the festival will present six international programs of short

films, two international programs of student films, and two programs of

Belgian films. The retrospectives include: "Humour? Humour!," an anthology

of the funniest animation films made over these last twenty years;

"Rhapsody in Wood," with some of the most remarkable puppet animation films

ever made; "Les Pirates du Caniveau," a program by European Festival

programmers; "Hungarian Animation," a program of Hungarian films from the

last twenty years; and tributes to filmmakers Ferenc Cako, Pascal Baes,

Fedor Khitruk, Yuri Norstein, and the brothers Quay. Other events include

the screening of Alexander Petrov's "The Old Man and the Sea" on a

large-format screen, and the screening of all the winners of Imagina 2000's

Pixel-Ina Prize. This year, the festival also presents Anima 2000, a 4-day

industry event with various conferences, screenings and panel discussions.
