WAC's Internet Winners

The winners are out for the first World Internet Animation Competition, held in conjunction with the World Animation Celebration and sponsored by Shockwave.com. One grand prizewinner, one student winner and first and second prizewinners in multiple categories were awarded US$100,000 in cash and prizes in conjunction with the annual World Animation Celebration. The competition received more than 650 animations in ten categories. The winners were chosen by a jury comprised of industry headliners . Serving on the jury were comic book legend Stan Lee; Brad Bird, director of THE IRON GIANT; Rob Cowie, producer of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT; Rob Minkoff, director of STUART LITTLE; Henry Selick, director of JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH; Joe Shields, creative mind behind the Web's JOE CARTOON; Alison Snowden and David Fine, Academy Award winning creators of the BOB AND MARGARET SHOW; Tom Snyder, co-creator of Comedy Central's DR. KATZ, PROFESSIONAL THERAPIST; Douglas TenNapel, creator of TV's EARTHWORM JIM; and Tom Winkler, creator of doodie.com. "We were thrilled by the number and quality of the entrants," said Michael Yanover, vice president and general manager of shows & series content at shockwave.com. "It is obvious that there are many talented animators targeting the Net and the array of submissions reflects the creativity the Web unleashes."
