Two Toons Make Cannes Official Competition

The Cannes Film Festival, which runs May 12-23, 2004, has announced it lineup of films, which includes two animated features. Both SHREK 2 and INNOCENCE: GHOST IN THE SHELL II have been selected for the official competition. The original SHREK also played at Cannes. This news must have DreamWorks execs partying – SHREK 2 was produced by the company and the company's specialty label Go Fish Pictures will be releasing INNOCENCE in the U.S.

On the visual effects front, Wong Kar-Wai's sci-fi epic 2046, with visual effects by French studio BUF Compagnie, was selected to screen in competition as well as Park Chan-Wook's OLD BOY and the Coen Brothers' THE LADYKILLERS. Out of competition screenings will see Zack Snyder's DAWN OF THE DEAD, Yimou Zhang's FLYING DAGGERS, Quentin Tarantino's KILL BILL VOL. 2 and Wolfgang Petersen's TROY.
