Golden Trailer Nominees Announced, Sinbad To Host
Moving one step further to crowning the favorite movie trailers of the year, the nominees for the Ninth Annual Golden Trailer Awards are in, selected for the first time ever by a public jury.
Actor and comedian Sinbad will host the live award ceremony on May 8, 2008 at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. This double announcement was made today by Golden Trailer event co-founders and producers Evelyn Brady-Watters and Monica Brady.
Created in 1999 to celebrate the art, craft and fun of movie promotion, The Golden Trailer Awards have established themselves as the top prize in the field, coveted by trailer producers, and watched carefully by marketing decision-makers in the industry. But, while the awards are serious business for the winners, for the rest of us they are just plain fun.
In a gala laced with comedy and entertainment, 16 of the 54 categories of Golden Trailer Awards will be distributed on May 8. Sinbad will be bringing his considerable talents to a popular event that in past years has been led by the likes of Tom Green, Dennis Miller and Kathy Griffin. On Monday, May 26, the awards will be broadcast nationally in primetime on MyNetworkTV, presenting the program as "The Movie Preview Awards."
Nominations for 53 categories will be posted today on www.goldentrailer.com (The 54th is "Best of Show," that will be announced later). Nominees for the 16 show-awards are below, and range from big-budget extravaganzas to smaller, more unconventional reels.
This was the first time that nominations for the Golden Trailer Awards were selected by public vote. Responding to a public call to action, 140 trailer buffs signed up online and devoted an average of four hours to selecting from a total pool of 968 entries.
Each juror evaluated one fifth of the nomination categories, which cover trailers, posters and TV spots, and range from the expected -- Best Action, Best Romance, Best Horror -- to the irreverent, including The Golden Fleece trophy applauding the best reel for a bad movie, and Trashiest Trailer. Additionally, there is a category for Best Videogame Trailer.
The final-round will be judged by a prestigious jury of entertainment pros, including legendary skateboarder/game developer Tony Hawk; writer/director Joss Whedon; writer/director Eli Roth; USA TODAY critic Claudia Puig; director Morgan Spurlock; producer Jonathan D. Krane; Telluride Film Festival co-director Gary Meyer; chairman of Lowe Worldwide Mark Wnek and SVP of Creative Advertising at Focus Features Myles Bender.
