Five Short Films In Competition For Cartoon d'Or 2010

Five short films from France, UK, Norway, Sweden and Estonia, will compete for the *Cartoon d'Or 2010*, the pan-European award for the best animated short film of the year.

Five short films from France, UK, Norway, Sweden and Estonia, will compete for the *Cartoon d'Or 2010*, the pan-European award for the best animated short film of the year.

The finalists for this award were chosen among 29 prizewinning films from Europe's most prestigious animation festivals over the past year. Competition for the Cartoon d'Or is limited to winners of awards from one of these festivals.

The jury composed of directors Joanna Quinn (UK) and Géza M. Tóth (Hungary), and producer Valérie Schermann (France), have nominated the following films:

The winner will be announced in Sopron, Hungary, on 17th September 2010 during *Magyar Cartoon Forum*, the platform to boost the co-production and distribution of European animation for television. The directors of each nominated short will present his or her film to an auditorium of important players in European animation, providing them an opportunity to strengthen their ties with the industry.

The winner will receive a trophy together with a financial aid of 10,000 EUR, thanks to the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union.

In 2009, Irish director *David O'Reilly* won the Cartoon d'Or award for his innovative short film "Please Say Something".

The *Cartoon d'Or* was created in 1991 by *CARTOON* in order to promote the talents of European animation and to act as a pipeline between short film makers and the industry. Previous winners include Nick Park, Sylvain Chomet, Mark Baker, Michael Dudok de Wit and Jacques-Rémy Girerd.

The Cartoon d'Or 2010 *partner festivals* are *AniFest* - Teplice (Czech Republic); *Anima* - Brussels (Belgium); *Cinanima *- Espinho (Portugal); *Encounters Short Film Festival* - Bristol (United Kingdom); *Festival International du Film d'Animation* - Annecy (France); *Fredrikstad Animation Festival *- Fredrikstad (Norway); *Holland Animation Film Festival* - Utrecht (Netherlands); *I Castelli Animati *- Genzano di Roma (Italy); *Internationales Trickfilm Festival Stuttgart *- Stuttgart (Germany); *"Cartoon East", the Eastern European festivals coalition* (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia).

*About CARTOON FORUM*Created in 1990 to boost the co-production and distribution of European animation for television and new media platforms, Cartoon Forum has helped over 430 animation series obtain financing to the tune of over 1.5 billion EUR. The event takes place annually in September and has no fixed location.

Magyar Cartoon Forum will take place from 14-17 September 2010 in Sopron, Hungary. The main partners are the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary, Ministry of Education and Culture, City of Sopron and Moholy-Nagy University of Art & Design of Budapest. The Cartoon Forum is organised by CARTOON in collaboration with Studio Baestarts.
