Scholastic has announced that its animated series CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG has been awarded the Humanitas Prize for 2001 in the Children's Animation Category. The award was presented to Scholastic for the episode, A NEW FRIEND. “We're delighted that the Humanitas jurors have chosen CLIFFORD to receive this wonderful award," said Deborah Forte, executive producer of CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG, and an executive vice president of Scholastic Inc. "We have worked hard to tell stories in CLIFFORD that are about diversity and community. We hope that all children can see themselves in our stories and come to appreciate the differences that make our society so rich, challenging and rewarding. To be awarded the Humanitas Prize is a great honor." The Humanitas Prize honors "those who create contemporary media to use their immense power in a humanistic way, to enrich as well as entertain their viewers." CLIFFORD, which airs on PBS KIDS, is the #1 show with kids 2-5 and the #2 show with kids 2-11 across all networks.
