Cars Takes First Golden Globe for Animated Feature
Disney/Pixar's CARS did a victory lap over Warner Bros.' HAPPY FEET and Columbia Pictures' MONSTER HOUSE Monday night (Jan. 15, 2007) at the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn.'s 64th annual Golden Globes at the Beverly Hilton. This year marked the introduction of the animated feature category, as the organization could no longer ignore the 3D animation explosion.
CARS director John Lasseter exclaimed: "This is history, folks. "I'd like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for having this category. I love animation." The Pixar/Disney Feature Animation chief later enthused backstage about what a banner year 2006 was for 3D animation and thanked the organization for allowing him to meet actor Tony Shalhoub on the red carpet a few years ago. Lasseter wound up casting Shalhoub as the voice of the effusive Luigi in CARS, and quipped that he is always on the lookout for voice talent.
Meanwhile, HAPPY FEET took Original Song with Prince's "The Song of the Heart."
